Creating your account
- Choose your role and verify your identityPick landlord, tenant, or both. Then enter your first name, last name and 11-digit NIN — exactly as they appear on your NIN slip. If they don't match NIMC's records, verification fails.
- Create your loginAdd your email address, phone number and a password (at least 8 characters).
- Confirm your emailWe email you a one-time code. Enter it to finish setting up your account.
ℹ️
Each NIN can only be linked to one HouzRent account. If you see a message that your NIN is already registered, log in instead — or contact support if you don't recognise the account.
Why we ask for your NIN
Renting involves trust on both sides: landlords want to know who is living in their property, and tenants want to know who they're paying. Verifying every account against NIMC records through iCheck means everyone on HouzRent is who they say they are.
- Your NIN is stored as a secure one-way fingerprint (a hash). It can't be turned back into your NIN — not even by our team.
- We keep the last four digits and your verified name so we can show you which NIN is linked.
- Your verified rental history can be recorded on the iCheck NIN registry, building a record that helps with future tenancy and credit applications.
Being a landlord and a tenant
If you both own property and rent somewhere, you don't need two accounts — choose both when you sign up, or add the other role later. From your dashboard, choose Activate Landlord Access (if you started as a tenant) or Activate Tenant Access (if you started as a landlord). One NIN, one login, two dashboards — switch between them with the Landlord / Tenant toggle.
Logging in & passwords
- Landlords and tenants log in with their email and password.
- Forgot your password? Use Forgot password? on the login page and we'll email you a reset code.
- Artisans log in with their phone number instead — see the Guide for artisans.
⚠️
HouzRent will never ask you for your password or a one-time code by phone, WhatsApp or email. Don't share them with anyone.
